They used to make newspapers here

Today the Detroit Free Press, my former employer, announced it would eliminate four days a week of home delivery by March 2009, restricting the comforting thunk of newspaper upon doorstep (sounds like a village in England) to Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. The newspaper loses so much money that it can't afford to deliver on days when it loses the most. I can't really blame them (the Detroit News is in on it, too) but it makes me sad. So I paraphrase Matt Watroba's song title, "They Used To Play Baseball Here."
