John Updike once said that if there is such a thing as reincarnation he'd like to come back as a turtle because he likes the smell of grass and the sound of rain on the roof.
Over the next few days, if you see a turtle who looks particularly happy, it might be Mr. Updike.
The last fulltime theater critic in Michigan, until he took a buyout from the Detroit Free Press in 2007, Marty Kohn is a writer, editor, singer-guitarist and more recently a journalism teacher at Michigan State University. He received the ASCAP-Deems Taylor Award for excellence in music journalism, two awards from the Society of American Travel Writers Foundation and once won an award for writing about bowling. Really. His work has appeared in American Theatre, Entertainment Weekly, Parents, Parenting, Family Life, Back Stage, USA Today and Best Plays Theater Yearbook.
